Russian Foreign Ministry:
In response to the unfriendly actions taken by the German side regarding the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Russian Federation was informed on September 7 of the following countermeasures.
The Russian side is withdrawing its consent for the operation of the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in St. Petersburg; the consulate must cease operations no later than September 18, 2026, and all its staff members must leave the territory of the Russian Federation by that date.
German Goethe-Institut cultural centers in the Russian Federation must cease operations. Their seconded staff have been ordered to leave Russia no later than September 13, 2026. Relevant diplomatic notes from the Russian Foreign Ministry have been handed to the head of the diplomatic mission.
It is the German authorities who have once again provoked a new round of escalation in bilateral relations. Full responsibility for the consequences rests entirely with the German government.
