Wealthy Greeks fearing attacks by anarchist groups will no longer be entitled to free police bodyguards in the latest cost-cutting plan from a government trying to meet budget targets set by international creditors.
The Public Order Ministry said on Tuesday that individuals with a net income of more than 100,000 euros ($132,500) a year will have to pay for their own police protection from potential terrorist and organised crime attacks. 

 Under the plan, they will have to pay 2,000 euros ($2,650) per month for each officer acting as a bodyguard and a daily fee of 50 euros for use of a patrol car.

  Berlin   - Mit der Freigabe der nächsten Tranche von 2,5 Milliarden Euro für das griechische Hilfsprogramm ist erst kommende Woche zu rechnen. Das Bundesfinanzministerium bekräftigte am Mittwoch in Berlin, das Geld werde dann ausgezahlt, wenn alle der insgesamt 22 von den internationalen Kreditgebern geforderten "vorrangigen Maßnahmen" umgesetzt seien. Zudem müsse der Haushaltsausschuss des Bundestages Stellung nehmen.

US Secretary of State met Palestinian leader Abbas reportedly proposing suspension of Jewish settlement construction in West Bank and East Jerusalem for 3 months to resume negotiations with Israel.

America's top diplomat John F. Kerry offered a three-month halt to the Jewish settlement construction in Eastern Jerusalem and the West Bank in a meeting in Jordan on Wednesday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in order to resumePalestinian-Israeli peace negotiations and lasting solution, al-Fatah sources said.

Kerry reportedly pledged Abbas US guarantee for the implementation of the proposal, sources added.

At the end of 2008, Hervé Falciani committed what is believed to have been the most portentous theft of banking data in history. The systems engineer and former employee at the Geneva offices of HSBC left Switzerland for France and took data from around 130,000 customers at the Anglo-Asian bank along with him.

France's finance minister at the time, current International Monetary Fund head Christine Lagarde, then handed data supplied by Falciani on to other countries. With the help of the information, authorities were able to uncover hundreds of cases of tax evasion, including those involving members of Spain's Botín banking family. In Greece, the data, which is often referred to as the "Lagarde List," was largely forgotten until it returned to the headlines during the debt crisis.

Bisher hat Bundesfinanzminister Wolfgang Schäuble in der Frage der Griechenland-Rettung immer einen unmissverständlich optimistischen Kurs gefahren: Man sei in Athen auf einem guten Weg, und selbstverständlich werde der deutsche Steuerzahler seine Kredite wiedersehen.

Bis zu den Wahlen im September will Berlin nicht über Griechenland, Portugal und Bankenunion reden. Sie alle bedeuten, dass deutsche Steuerzahler oder Banken Geld verlieren könnten. Ganz ähnlich verhalten sich Österreichs Regierungsparteien vor ihren Wahlen. Dabei glaubt nach den jüngsten Zinsausschlägen niemand mehr, dass Griechenland schon Ende nächsten Jahres an die Märkte zurückkehrt.

Der Abbau des Schuldenbergs von mehr als 300 Milliarden Euro kann den Griechen aus eigener Kraft kaum gelingen. Da fast zwei Drittel davon den Euroländern gehören, ist leicht zu erraten, wer zur Kasse gebeten wird. Wien hängt im schlimmsten Fall mit mehr als fünf Milliarden Euro drinnen, Berlin ungefähr mit zehn Mal so viel.

Στην πρώτη περίπτωση, σε αρκετές ελληνικές ιστοσελίδες, επαναλαμβάνεται το παράδοξο "φαινόμενο" να μεταφέρουν δηλώσεις σκοπιανών αξιωματούχων διατηρώντας τον όρο “Δημοκρατία της Μακεδονίας”. Το πώς αποκαλούν την χώρα τους σκοπιανοί πολιτικοί, δημοσιογράφοι και πολίτες το γνωρίζουμε όλοι και πολύ καλά. Δεν χρησιμεύει σε τίποτα να το υπενθυμίζουμε. Το να το μεταφέρουμε όμως, με οποιονδήποτε τρόπο, στα δικά μας γραπτά δείχνει ότι δεν μας ενοχλεί και τόσο ή δεν το δίνουμε και τόση σημασία.
 Συγκεκριμένα, η δήλωση του σκοπιανού ΥΠΕΞ μπορεί να μεταφερθεί με πολλούς τρόπους. Είναι θέμα αντανακλαστικών σε εθνικά θέματα, όπως δήλωσε πρόσφατα και ο Έλληνας ΥΠΕΞ, κατά την επίσκεψή του στην Κύπρο. Προφανές είναι, ότι σε τέτοιου είδους λεπτά θέματα, δεν είναι αρκετά μόνο τα αντανακλαστικά των πολιτικών μιας χώρας, αλλά και των πολιτών της. Επί πλέον, δεν πρέπει να αφήνετε χώρος για ακραίες συμπεριφορές.

President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Russia would not hand former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden over to the United States but that if Snowden wants to stay in Russia he "must stop his work aimed at harming our American partners." 

A source in the Russian immigration said Monday that Snowden has applied for political asylum in Russia.
Snowden "is not a Russian agent", Putin said, repeating that Russian intelligence services were not working with the fugitive American, who is believed to remain in the transit area at a Moscow airport eight days after arriving from Hong Kong. He said Snowden should choose his final destination and go there. 

Nabucco project fails, placed by Trans Adriatic Pipeline project

VIENNA / ANKARA (AA) - The Nabucco pipeline to be built to carry natural gas to Shah II sea field in Azerbaijan was failed for the consortium preferred Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), using another route.

The Nabucco project faced a removal possibility after Austria's gas and oil company OMV announced its detachment to the project and stated they approved TAP for its being "more economic".

Azerbaijani natural gas would have been carried through Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria to Europe within the scope of Nabucco project, where Turkey was a member. However, consortium active in Shah II sea field in Azerbaijan showed TAP as an alternative to Nabucco, which would carry the gas in a shorter route through Turkey to Italy. It was announced that Azerbaijan, Turkey, Switzerland, Norway and Germany were partners of the project. 

Government of Greece and TAP sign host government agreement / Endgültiges Aus für Nabucco - Konsortium entscheidet für TAP

The Greek Government (the Ministry of Energy, Environment and Climate Change – MEECC) and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project have today signed the Host Government Agreement (HGA) in Athens, agreed in principle last week.

The HGA sets out the framework by which the project will be realized and operated on Greek territory. This includes processes related to land easement and acquisition, the implementation of technical, safety, environmental and social standards and permitting.

TAP will be one of the largest sources of foreign direct investment in Greece, and is estimated to cost approximately Euro 1.5 bn for the Greek section. During construction, TAP is anticipated to create some 2,000 direct, and up to 10,000 indirect, new jobs across a number of industries including manufacturing and utilities, transport, communications and financial and business services. The project already collaborates with a number of Greek businesses and experts, and will seek to expand such cooperation in line with its commitment to Local Content.

Media outlets in Turkey and Germany upped the severity of language of new reporting, amid rising tension between the countries that followed Berlin initiative to halt Turkey’s European Union bid.

The two have been in conflict since German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statements on the ongoing Gezi Protests, and the daily newspapers of both countries have decided to join in.

German Bild carried Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on its cover with the caption “New Dictator,” depicting Erdoğan with a Hitler-like moustache. The cover was then featured on the front page of Turkish daily Takvim, who itself dubbed Merkel a “Nazi.”

Der Streit zwischen Berlin und Ankara um das harte Vorgehen der türkischen Regierung gegen Demonstranten eskaliert. Wegen deutschlandkritischer Äußerungen der Regierung in Ankara wurde am Freitag der türkische Botschafter in Berlin, Hüseyin Avni Karslioglu, ins Auswärtige Amt (AA) einbestellt. Äußerungen zu den EU-Beitrittsverhandlungen seien auf großes Unverständnis gestoßen. "Das geht so nicht", sagte AA-Sprecher Andreas Peschke.

Kurz darauf bestellte das türkische Außenministerium den deutschen Botschafter Eberhard Pohl ein, wie eine Ministeriumssprecherin auf Anfrage bestätigte. Außenminister Ahmet Davutoglu habe bei einem Besuch im ukrainischen Odessa gesagt, Grund seien Aussagen Pohls und aus Deutschland, meldete die Nachrichtenagentur Anadolu. Da Pohl sich nicht in Ankara aufhalte, werde ihn ein anderer Diplomat vertreten.

German railway company Deutsche Bahn, DB, is suspending operations in a number of countries with high levels of corruption. Suddeutsche Zeitung reported on Tuesday that DB was withdrawing from Greece, Algeria, Libya, Rwanda and Thailand due to the corruption risk.
The decision of the German railway giant was explained with findings of the prosecuting authority in Frankfurt that that DB International, a subsidiary of DB, had been paying bribes in a number of countries to secure contracts for consultancy and planning for railway projects.
According to the German daily, DB International paid EUR 315 000 in bribes to Greek officials to secure contracts for the construction of a metro line.

LONDON, June 16 (RIA Novosti) – President Vladimir Putin on Sunday defended Russia’s weapons supplies to Syria saying they are in the framework of the international law. “If we speak calmly, I want to stress that Russia supplies arms to the legitimate government of Syria in full compliance with the norms of international law and we call on our partners to act in the same way,” Putin told reporters after talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron on Sunday. “We are not breaching any rules,” Putin said. "I think you will not deny that one does not really need to back the people who not only kill their enemies, but open up their bodies and eat their intestines," Putin said referring to a video footage of a rebel eating what appeared to be a government soldier’s heart.

Lavrov: Syria Government Gaining Ground, No Need to Use Chemical Arms

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said there was no need for the Syrian government to use chemical arms since the Syrian Army was making steady advances on the ground.
"The regime, as the opposition is saying out in the open, is enjoying military success on the ground," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters during a joint press appearance with his Italian counterpart Emma Bonino. "What sense is there for the regime to use chemical arms -- especially in such small amounts?" Lavrov asked.
Russia said on Friday that US allegations Assad had used chemical weapons during the fight with the foreign-backed militants were fabricated and unconvincing.
