Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov advocated on Saturday for a reform of the UN Security Council that would incorporate more representatives from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
During a press conference following his address to the General Assembly, the foreign minister rejected expanding Western representation: "We cannot allow more seats for the West, because it is already overrepresented on the UN Security Council."
Lavrov emphasized that the organization must adapt to new realities and truly become a center for harmonizing the interests of all states, in accordance with the UN Charter.
Russia opposes permanent membership for Germany and Japan on the UN SC but supports the candidacies of India and Brazil
